I was impressed by the Fighting Irish today. But it wasn’t on the field, it was in the parking lot.
Bag pipes were playing, green mohawks spiked to they sky, beer pong tables…oh they were ready to party. As the fans trickled into the stadium and took their seats, I think they were also taken by surprise. Lacy Cooper made a TD within the first 7-8 minutes of the game. Then another Alabama goal, then another.
Will this game live up to the hype? So far, it’s not. And I think the fans came here for more! Well, at least Notre Dame fans did.
To be continued.

One day away and the traffic says it all. Thousands have made their way to the sandy beaches of Miami for the greatest game of the year. But some have one problem. They don’t have tickets to the game!
I’ve spoken to a number of people who traveled across the country hoping to find tickets at a decent price. Some are more vocal about the need than others. One guy just walked down the street just mumbling ” need tickets, need tickets.” A couple from Citronelle posted a sign on their car window. How creative!
I think most fans though just want to experience all the fanfare and take home a W.

You really are a product of your environment.
During media day at Sun Life Stadium, players like AJ McCarron and TJ Yeldon took a moment to say thank you the people who helped shape their lives.
McCarron says the Mobile Community helped raise him and become the man he is today. TJ Yeldon thanked Daphne High School for its support. It’s good to know competitive players can give credit where it is due.
I know people from their neighborhoods appreciate the gratefulness and take pride in the players accomplishments.
So when we all rise to the occasion, let us not forget who helped get his there. And if we get the national spotlight, tell the world!

It’s the weekend! We made it to Friday.
Over the next few days I expect to see more Alabama fans arrive for the big game Monday. They should start to check into their hotels, grab a rental and paint the town crimson and white:)
It’s amazing how much hype there is for this game! Understandably so. Two stories teams competing for another notch on their historic timeline.
I spoke to some folks from ESPN and got their take on all the south beach excitement! Every one has their own opinion. We shall see how it all unfolds.

For the next few days, the beach is my office. And for thousands of Alabama fans the beach is their playground.
The contrast of my work and their play has been quite interesting. As I’m lugging around my tripod and camera in the sand Alabama fans wave at me from the water. Or as I’m doing an interview on the boardwalk I see a guy with a “bama” t-shirt on a segway rolling my way.
But covering the BCS championship has its major perks, simply because of where I am. The palm trees calm me
during my live shots. And the million dollar yachts motivate me to work even harder! A week in Miami will do that to you:)

Gather four journalist and put them on south beach together and what do you get? I’m not sure the answer but I figured it was a good way to start this blog
That is our scenario here in South Florida. For the most past we are all VJ’s at home. We know how to make things happen on our own. But this experience is teaching all of us how to work to-get-her. We have to rely on each other to drive from point A to point B. We have to go over are the agenda together so we know what the day will bring. And we even count on each other to take pictures of the moments we want to capture, but are too busy to take a picture. For a week, we need each other. And that is quite alright with me.
Team work makes the dream work!

Tucked behinds some palm trees on South Beach, a massive BCS sign stands tall. THIS is where football and the beach collide.
Most people I spoke to today were soaking up the rays or taking in the scene. There were a few football fans, but they were either very happy FSU fans or grumpy Northern NIU fans :/.
The Orange Bowl is over, make way for the BCS crowd Miami!

We just left Sun Life Stadium, where it will soon all go down. Workers are tearing down Orange bowl gear and putting up BCS championship posters.
Although not much is happening now, I can just imagine what it’s going to look it just a few days.
We are pulling into South Beach now to get some video for our newscast. Stay tuned!

As soon as we arrived in Ft. Lauderdale the palm trees and warm night air gave us a pleasant welcome.
I think reality has set in for both Candace and me. We are in south Florida, representing the Gulf Coast for the biggest football event of the year! We arrived happy.
When we finished checking into our hotel we went straight to where the action is, off of Seabreeze Blvd. in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Our Alabama/Notre Dame radar was on full power. Anything that looks remotely close to a football fan our radar picked it up.
Our dinner conversation involved a little, “Is that a crimson shirt?” and, “I think that is an Alabama hat.”
We are on the prowl for any and everything BCS related. Besides, that is what we are here for!

700 Miles: Road to Miami
As my co-worker and I make our way through Florida, we can’t help to be very excited but a little anxious about the days ahead. We both know how important it is to deliver the goods… packages, pictures, natural sound, web-scripts, and don’t forget to blog!
We are making this trip, though, for the thousands of fans who would love to be right there in middle of it all. Our job is to show you what is happening and bring the National Championship experience to you from 700 miles away. What a privilege!
So from our hotel in Fort Lauderdale to South Beach, I will document as much as I can. We are on this trip together! Meet me every day on your TV set on FOX10 News, Facebook and Twitter.
