The Next Wave of Superhero Movies

December 16th, 2013 at 1:11 pm by under The Movie Guru, Uncategorized

Hello Blog Readers.  This is Marcus Jackson, the FOX 10 / CW 55 Resident Movie Guru here.

I remember when I was a kid back in the 1970s and on Saturday mornings myself and my cousins would get up and watch “The Superfriends” on ABC and then later on in the 80s we were watching “Spider-Man”, “The Incredible Hulk”, and “Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends” (Iceman & FireStar) on NBC.  There was a live action version of “Spider-Man” and of course “The Incredible Hulk” starring Bill Bixby as “David Banner” and Lou Ferrigno as “The Hulk”.  In the 90s & 2000s (turn of the century … WOW) Marvel and DC Comics were making their well known cast of characters from the pages of their comic books and graphic novels come to life either in animated form or live action on television.   Now I know this is supposed to be a “Movie” blog.  This is where the real fun begins.

Now superheroes have been on the big screen since motion pictures became popular in the early stages of film history.  The so-called “serials” used quite a few heroes like Superman, Batman, Captain Marvel (Shazam), and Flash Gordon just to name a few.  In 1978, the movie game changed when Richard Donner directed and Ilya & Alexander Salkind produced Superman: The Movie with Christopher Reeve bringing the “Man of Steel” back to life on the big screen.  In 1989, Tim Burton got the go ahead to bring another DC Comic superhero to life and Michael Keaton starred as the “Dark Knight” in Batman.

With the success of these two movies and technology becoming more advanced to make movies the world of comic books and superheroes were up for grabs.  In a sense, we were now able to bring our childhood fantasies to life on the big screen.  I did a report a few years about how superhero movies have just popped up all over ever since then.  Just these past few years we have had The X-Men, The Avengers, The Watchmen, and many other DC & marvel Comics characters hit the movie theaters with box office success.  And these past couple of years with Marvel’s The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man, Iron Man 3, Man of Steel, The Wolverine, and Thor: The Dark World; Superhero movies have made quite an impact in Hollywood and the movie industry as a whole.  The pantheon of the world of superheroes from both comic book universes is continuing to get everyone excited about what coming out next to a theater near you.

The Next Wave of Superhero Movies coming in 2014 …. Check out these trailers for the following courtesy of IMDb

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ….. http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi1965008921/

Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier …. http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi3370297369/

X-Men: Days of Future Past ….. http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi1525524505/

These are the three main movies from the Marvel Universe and one more anticipated movie from the Marvel Comics campground … Guardians of the Galaxy is getting HUGE buzz.  That would make the Big Winner in the upcoming Superhero Battle Royale to be …. DISNEY!  That because they are the owners of Marvel Studios which have produced these films; except for the Spider-Man franchise which is still produced by SONY Pictures.

And as for the DC Universe, We will check in on them in 2015 with the anticipated “Batman vs. Superman” sequel to Man of Steel.  And with the announcement that Wonder Woman will be in the film; could “Justice League” be in the works and get Warner Brothers studios back in the game?

WE SHALL SEE TRUE BELIVERS …. EXCELSIOR ….. Thank You Stan Lee  :)

Remembering Paul Walker

December 3rd, 2013 at 1:17 pm by under The Movie Guru, Uncategorized

Hello Blog Readers.  This is Marcus Jackson, the FOX 10 / CW 55 Resident Movie Guru here.

This has been a weekend that defines the word “SHOCKER”.  None so defining this term of vocabulary in the world of Hollywood and the film industry than the announcement of the tragic accidental death of Paul Walker this past Saturday afternoon.  Walker was one of the stars of the very successful “Fast and Furious” movie franchise.

WALKER WAS KILLED IN A CAR CRASH NEAR LOS ANGELES, ON SATURDAY.

AUTHORITIES SAY WALKER WAS A PASSENGER IN A CAR THAT CRASHED INTO A TREE AND A LIGHT POLE BEFORE BURSTING INTO FLAMES.

BOTH WALKER AND THE DRIVER WERE PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE.

INVESTIGATORS ARE STILL TRYING TO DETERMINE WHAT LED TO THE CRASH.

BUT THEY BELIEVE SPEED WAS A FACTOR.

WALKER IS SURVIVED BY HIS 15 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER.

HE WAS JUST 40 YEARS OLD.

I know a lot of us know Paul from the Fast and Furious movies; as a matter of fact he was suppose to be back on set this week working on Fast and Furious 7, the final movie for the franchise, but of course the movie is on hold right and he has another project soon to be released called Hours which I’m sure we will hear more about in the coming weeks.  He has also been in some other very popular and critically acclaimed films like Varsity Blues, Pleasantville, Into the Blue, Joy Ride, Running Scared, and Takers.  Like most actors he got his start in television on shows like Diff’rent Strokes, Who’s The Boss, The Young and The Restless, and notably on the TV series Throb in 1987 and guest spots on Highway To Heaven in mid 80s.

But Paul Walker was also man with a big heart and loved working with charities.  During the time of his death he was working with a charity he formed called Reach Out Worldwide to help victims of natural disasters.  I’ve posted a link to the charity here …..https://www.roww.org/  If you would like to help and donate in his honor.

Death is a part of life, we all know that.  And Death In Hollywood is always a cliché for things to come or happen that we can’t explain at times.  I know that many, many people loved Paul Walker .  I’ve been reading the chatter on the web and other blogs.  Yes the picture of the car after the crash is posted … EVERYWHERE!  But let us not dwell on that.  I hope that we all can remember Paul as a fine actor who had a great career that was still growing.  “F & F 7” was going to be  … and still will be HUGE when they finally decide to continue production.

He may have lived life …. Fast and Furious on the Big Screen but Paul Walker as we have come to find out and remember him by …. Lived Life To The Fullest in the short time that he was here with us.

This Movie’s On Fire – The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

November 25th, 2013 at 1:00 pm by under The Movie Guru, Uncategorized

Hello Blog Readers.  This is Marcus Jackson, the FOX 10 / CW 55 Resident Movie Guru here.

I just want to say one thing ….. I’M BACK!  And Boy I Came Back At A Good Time When It Comes To Movies.

This was a great weekend to go see a good movie and with a payout of $161 Million at the Box Office it was safe to say that “The Odds Were With …” The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.  This sequel to last year’s hit film that started the series, The Hunger Games, became the biggest November opening at the movies here in the US … EVER!  It has been getting rave reviews and by the way people were lining up to see it in 2D & IMAX it was well worth the wait.

I can tell you that fans of the books … like myself … were well pleased with the results of the finished product that hit the Big Screen on this past Thursday.  Yes, the film had some evening showing across the country.  I went to an 8:30pm showing this past Thursday with some family members and made it a Family Movie Night and we all had a great time together.

Catching Fire is the second adaptation film from the series based on the second book in the series written by Suzanne Collins.  It takes places a few months right after the ending of the last film at the conclusion of the 74th Annual Hunger Games and the “victors” were the tributes from District 12 – Katniss Everdeen & Peeta Mellark.  To the dismay of the head of the Capital, President Snow, because there is only suppose to be “one” victor in a fight to the death but they defied the rules and thus in the process became rebels and a symbol of hope in a world where it was thought that all hope was lost in the games.  But now the odds are not in the favor for the victors because of Katniss’ “Stand Against The System of The Games” President Snow wants her “Eliminated” …. i.e. …. DEAD.

And not just her but all of the surviving former Victors of the Hunger Games are in danger because of Katniss’ actions.  In Turn, the surviving Victors in all 12 districts become tributes for the 75th Annual Hunger Games.  Thus is the premise for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.  And according to the Box Office results The Fire Was HOT!

Click on this link below and check out this trailer from the film courtesy of IMDb …. http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi130262553/

And here’s a side note of movie trivia for you – Actor Liam Hemsworth who plays Gale Hawthrone in this movie beat out his actor brother, Chris Hemsworth who plays Thor, Norse God of Thunder & Marvel Comics Avenger in the No# 2 in the country – THOR: The Dark World.  Needless to say, the Hemsworth brothers are on top of the movie universe right now.  That’s the way Hollywood rolls sometimes.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is an awesome film and it was worth the wait.  The storyline, the special effects, the costumes and outfits the cast wore, the locations – They did a lot of the filming in Hawaii.  Go check out some of the cast interviews here on the web after you check out the movie.  It could be a nice distraction from the hustle of Thanksgiving holiday dash of Turkey Thursday and Black Friday shopping … well for many stores it’s Black Thursday since they will be open on Thanksgiving Day.

This is Marcus Jackson, the FOX 10 / CW 55 Resident Movie Guru.  The Holiday Movie Season is in full swing now.  Some Very Good Movies are out and on the way to a theater near you in the coming weeks.  And my sisters, Donna & Jessica, and Adopted Mom, Barbara, our next Family Movie Night – The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.  Hope to see you all at the movies and Have A Happy Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend!

2013 Summer Movie Showdown 2 – Kryptonians, Monsters, and Zombies

June 18th, 2013 at 12:38 pm by under The Movie Guru, Uncategorized

Hello Movie Lovers. Once again, I’m Marcus Jackson, the FOX 10 / CW 55 Resident Movie Guru here.

What can I say … the weekend of June 14th (Father’s Day Weekend) at the box office was … SUPER!  Millions of fans and $125 Million in ticket sales flew Man of Steel to the top spot and also made it the Biggest June Movie Opening in Movie History (So Far).  It was really different take on the origins of how this icon of a superhero came to be – a somewhat “darker” look at the path the man known as Clark Kent came to be called “Superman”.

In the movie Superman fights his fellow Kryptonian warrior, General Zod.  Now this week at the box office Man of Steel will have to fight off Monsters (the animated ones) and Zombies (the really animated and undead ones).  Two more big Summer Blockbusters are about to hit the Big Screen and this will make movie going a three-ring circus of choices.  Depending on your mood or taste there will be something for everyone to go see.

For the kids and the kids at heart we have Monsters UniversityDisney & Pixar are at it again.  This time we check in on our favorite monsters, Mike & Sulley, at the time when they met in college at Monsters University.  This animated prequel to the Mega Hit movie Monsters, Inc. will have some competition in a few weeks during the July 4th weekend when Despicable Me 2 arrives in theaters July 3rd.   To get you ready check out this trailer for Monsters University courtesy of IMDb …. http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi3128796953/

Now we come to the other extreme of movie choices this weekend.  This movie has hyped up ever since last summer.  We have Brad Pitt starting in the action horror event, World War Z.  The critics are saying that this film could make Brad Pitt an “Action Star”.  World War Z is about, what else, Zombies.  They are in the midst of taking over the world unless the world of the living, led by Pitt, rises up and fight back.  Check out this link to the trailer courtesy of IMDb…. http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi3616319001/

These are you main three flicks in this “Battle Royale” this weekend but let’s not forget there are still some Really Good movies still out in theaters.  The Purge, This Is The End, Fast and Furious 6, Epic, Star Trek: Into Darkness and Iron Man 3 are all still hanging tough.  And … We’re not even halfway thru the Summer Movie Season just yet.  Still got a lot more offering to come.

Keep checking out my Movie Guru Blog Entries in the coming weeks.  You might have a chance to see some of these movies for FREE if they come along with Advance Screening Movie Passes.  If My Friend and Colleague, Dani Dials, The Face of CW, get any Free Movie Passes for Any Movie You Bet Your Last Drop Of Buttered Popcorn That I’ll Let You Know.  Also, we have some interviews from Studio 10 of some of the stars from these Summer Blockbusters talking to Joe Emer, Cherish Lombard, and Dani Dials that I’ll repost for your viewing pleasure so stay connected.

This is Marcus Jackson, The FOX 10 / CW 55 Resident Movie Guru.  Kryptonians, Monsters, and Zombies!  Only at the movies is where you can get a vast selection of good entertainment to enjoy.  All you have to do is choose.

Man of Steel – The Path of an Icon

June 13th, 2013 at 12:51 pm by under The Movie Guru, Uncategorized

Citizens of Smallville, Metropolis, and the World of the Blog Reader.  This is Marcus Jackson, the FOX 10 / CW 55 Resident Movie Guru here.

Remember how this popular 50s & 60s TV show would start off with this famous intro …..

Faster than a Speeding Bullet … More Powerful than a Locomotive …. Able to Leap Tall Buildings in a Single Bound …. Look, Up In The Sky … It’s a Bird … It’s a Plane …. No … It’s Superman!”.

The Adventures of Superman was a staple at my house whenever they showed the reruns in the afternoon after school when my grandma would be finished watching her soap operas (Yes, Soap Operas were the backbone of Daytime TV at one time).  Every Boy and Girl that I know would tie a bed sheet around their neck for their cape and pretend to fly in the air – if you had a red bed sheet you really played the part of that “Strange visitor from another planet …”.  When the theme music would play to start the show I would just sit down with my sandwich or snack my grandmomma gave me and just watch and have fun.  And of course on Saturday morning the Superfriends would come on and you would see Superman with Batman & Robin, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman.  Side Note: Remember when they replaced the Junior Superfriends – Wendy, Marvin, and Wonder Dog with the Wonder Twins Zan and Jayna and their Space Monkey, Gleek.  It is safe to say that Superman was a part of my childhood like many others.

In the late 1940s actor Kirk Alyn brought the character of “The Man From Krypton” to life in the Superman serials that were shown in theaters.  There were a few others that played the role but it wasn’t a an actor by the name of George Reeves in the 1950s that the role of Superman would be identified with him.  When the invention of television came along and the actor became the superhero on the small screen is when he became an icon for the character that is known as Superman.  The old 50s & 60s TV show can still be seen in reruns somewhere in the  world or on DVD & Blu-Ray.  Of course the old movie serials and all the cartoons and comic books had Superman somewhere in your presence.

Now it wasn’t until 1978 when Director Richard Donner made the statement for his latest project at the time saying “You will believe that a man can fly …”.  That is when a young actor by the name of Christopher Reeve became the next man to uphold the mantle in Superman: The Movie.  The following years of 1979 – 1980 Superman 2 would soar into theaters with great success forever making Chris Reeve the latest icon of the Superman brand for the ages. Reeve would go on to do Superman 3 & Superman 4: The Quest For Peace.  After that the 1980s Superman would be absent from the big screen but there’s still the comic books and the small screen of television.

Take the comic book angle; Superman “dies” by the hands of Doomsday – but comes back to life.  Within that time some new characters like a new Superboy, an android Superman, and the superhero called Steel comes to life on the pages.  Superman would come back with his hair grown out and wearing an all black unitard suit before he goes back to the good old red, yellow & blue tights.  Some of you may remember Superman Red & Superman Blue.  And Yes, We can’t forget that Clark Kent (Superman’s alter-ego) & Lois Lane Got Married.  This will lead us to the iconic superhero’s return to the small screen known as television.

The producers of the Superman movies, Alexander & Ilya Salkind, brought us The New Adventures of Superboy  in the late 1980s thru the early 90s. Warner Brothers would release the new Superman: The Animated Series from 1996 thru 2000 with much success just like Batman: the Animated Series did when the movie Batman came out in 1989.   It wouldn’t be until Teri Hatcher & Dean Cain in the mid 1990s (1993 – 1997) brought the characters of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman to life that the DC Comics icon would be back in the spotlight once again.  Dean Cain would now uphold the mantle for “Truth, Justice, and The American   Way”, but Teri Hatcher didn’t do too bad … her posters in every young man’s bedroom, Being a Bond Girl (Tomorrow Never Dies), and the star of Desperate Housewives.  Alas, like the “Ebb and Flow” of the ocean tides Superman would take a breather.

Now we enter the 21st Century.  In the comics, Superman get some the new outfits and a new look.  On TV and DVD the DC Comics Universe or DC Universe bring us many new animated movies with Superman and his colleagues.  The most noted are the animated series Justice League & Justice League Unlimited.  But the network known as The WB … and now The CW … wanted to explore the life of a young man named Clark Kent in his hometown of Smallville.  Thus, from 2001 to 2011, Smallville followed path of this “Coming of Age” action drama that would show us how this young man would become “The Light” the world would need to fight the darkness and become the hero it deserve, a hero that would be known as “Superman”.

Now all of these memories can now be found on DVD and Blu-Ray or on Netflex or On Demand … even on YouTube.  And Now, We come to June 14th, 2013.  The latest chapter to the Superman mythos will come to life on the big screen.  The Zack Snyder directed, Christopher Nolan produced Man of Steel will arrive larger than life in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D.  And I must say that it “looks” really good.  It’s been getting a lot of buzz ever since we saw the trailers and promotional pictures last summer. And, The Ladies LOVE Henry Cavill as the latest actor, and the first British actor to take on the mantle of  the role of Kal-El / Clark Kent / Superman.   Here’s hoping it doesn’t disappoint the movie fan, the Superman fan that is in us in one form or another.  Here’s a taste of what I’m talking about check out this trailer from Man of Steel courtesy of IMDb ….

  http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi3133384217/

This is Marcus Jackson, The FOX 10 / CW 55 Resident Movie Guru.  Time for this mild-mannered movie blogger to unbutton my dress shirt to reveal my Superman “S” T-shirt underneath; rush to the theater and go “Up, Up, And Away!” on a fun joyride at the box office.  Hope to see you all there as well and be a part of a moment in movie history.

Summer Movie Season 2013 – June – The 2nd Quarter

June 5th, 2013 at 12:52 pm by under The Movie Guru, Uncategorized

Hello Blog Readers.  This is Marcus Jackson, the FOX 10 / CW 55 Resident Movie Guru here.

To paraphrase an old saying … “If the movie’s nice, go see it twice …”;  Well, I guess that would explain why Fast & Furious 6 was at the top of the Box Office once again for a second week in a row.  Only Iron Man 3 has done this earlier in May.  Also, some of you may have checked out my last blog entry because Now You See Me came in 2nd place.  Now that’s the power of Studio 10 for you.  The Jaden Smith / Will Smith “Father & Son” Sci-Fi Action flick After Earth came in 3rd place – which was a little bit disappointing with Will Smith’s track record of hitting No#1 at the box office during this particular movie season; when he is known as “Mr. Box Office”.

With all of these Summer Blockbusters coming to a theater near you there are two rules they all apply to;  1) Make Money at The Box Office … and 2) Make More Money The Following Week at The Box Office.  If a movie can make over a Billion dollars within the timeframe that it is in theaters, or at a plateau of $500 Million – the studio that fork out the Big Bucks to make the movie and pay the talent in front and behind the camera lens WILL WIN!

We are now in the month of June.  This is the 2nd month of the 2013 Summer Blockbuster Movie Season.  We are about to see the gauntlet be thrown down … especially in the realm of the Superhero Genre.  Basically it’s Iron vs. Steel, when Iron Man 3, now a month in theaters already, will a go up against Man of Steel – which could be the “savior” of the DC Comics Movie Universe.  I’ll get into the “Return of Superman” on the Big Screen in my next blog entry.  We have some other movies that will be coming out this month that are worthy of your consideration.

We have two comedies that are getting the funny bone a tingling – The Internship, Much Ado About Nothing, & This Is The End.  For a family outing, Disney has you covered with Monsters University, which is somewhat a “prequel” to the Big Hit Movie, Monsters, Inc.  And if you are looking for some Action we got The Purge, World War Z, and White House Down.  All three of these movies have been lighting up the “Buzz-o-meter” right now with stars like Ethan Hawke, Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx, and Brad Pitt in the mix.  And Yes, Man of Steel!

That’s June for you in the world of the Summer Blockbuster Movies of 2013.  This is just the Second Quarter of this particular movie season but I think that on June 14th the “Halftime Show” will come a little sooner and it is going to be “SUPER” – but we’ll get into that on my next blog entry.

Keep checking out my Movie Guru Blog Entries in the coming weeks.  We got some Awesome movies coming out this Summer Movie Season.  By the way, you might have a chance to see some of these movies for FREE if they come along with Advance Screening Movie Passes.  If My Friend and Colleague, Dani Dials, The Face of CW, get any Free Movie Passes for Any Movie You Bet Your Last Drop Of Buttered Popcorn That I’ll Let You Know.

2013 Memorial Day Weekend Showdown at The Movies

May 24th, 2013 at 12:45 pm by under The Movie Guru, Uncategorized

Hello Blog Readers.  This is Marcus Jackson, the FOX 10 / CW 55 Resident Movie Guru here.

Well it’s The Memorial Day Weekend.  Now many of us see this as the unofficial start of the summer with schools letting out for vacation; kids graduating from high school and college; and you want to try out that new grill on your patio with some steaks, burgers, hot dogs, and fish … you get the ideal.  That’s a lot of fun things to do on this big holiday weekend.

Now I just want you to remember what Memorial Day is really all about.  Just remember all of the men and women that throughout the years have given their lives in the service to our country in our Armed Forces and also our Police, Fire & Rescue, and especially our First Responders.  They have given the ultimate sacrifice so that we may be safe and sound in our homes and able to go out and enjoy the freedoms that we have in this country today.

With that said, The Memorial Day Weekend is always a BIG WEEKEND for Movie Lovers and Movie Goers.  Usually the Summer Movie Season would start on this holiday weekend but as we know by now it started at the beginning of this month of May with the release of Iron Man 3.  It stayed at the top of the box office for two weeks but this past weekend Star Trek: Into Darkness took over the top spot.  Now the Space/Time Continuum is about to take a turn into a Three Lane Warp   Drive when three new films are about to beam aboard the Summer Movie Showdown Merry-Go-Round in theaters this Memorial Day Weekend.

First up, The “Wolf Pack” is back for one last ride to wrap up this very successful movie franchise, The Hangover Part III.  Yes, everyone is back and this one is supposed to be a little bit darker but as funny if not funnier.  Check out this trailer and judge for yourself …. http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi2312742425/

Now the Wolf Pack will be up against another pack of wild drivers that are just “Fast & Furious”   That’s right; the much anticipated sequel for the film franchise, Fast and Furious 6, shifts into high gear on the big screen.  This time Vin Diesel and company gets recruited by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to help track down a new gang of car drivers that are stealing military type weapons and vehicles.  Check out the action from this trailer to get you all revved up ….. http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi2942936857/

Now if you have to entertain the kids this holiday weekend we have very good movie to take them to with an all-star voice cast.  You can say that it’s an “Epic’ event to go and witness for yourself.  The movie is called …. Very appropriately … Epic.  Check out this trailer and you’ll see what I mean ….

  http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi564438809/

This is what we have to look forward to this Memorial Day Weekend at the Box Office this year.  So if you got the time this weekend after you’ve been to the beach or grilling that perfect steak burger or just ready to see a great film put on your Iron man armor, get in your 1940s jalopy, Warp Speed on the Enterprise, plan your road trip to Vegas, super up your cars with NO2, or just take a trip to an enchanted forest ready to fight for what you want see.

Just get out and go see a great movie.  And this is almost the end of May.  We Are Just Getting To The Good Stuff!

2013 Summer Movie Showdown 1 – Past, Present, or Future

May 13th, 2013 at 12:51 pm by under The Movie Guru, Uncategorized

Hello Blog Readers.  This is Marcus Jackson, the FOX 10 / CW 55 Resident Movie Guru here once again.

Well I guess when it comes to literary inspiration … aka … adaptable screenplay … a comic book has more pull than a classic novel.  As I told you in my last blog entry if Iron Man 3 can beat out The Great Gatsby for the top spot at the box office this past weekend it would be a contender for the Best Summer Movie of  2013.  Comic Book Fans UNITED – Iron Man 3 made over $72 Million while The Great Gatsby got a little over $51 Million.  This  means that the pathos of Tony Stark was a little more intriguing to movie goers than the updated version of the madcap lavish life of the Great Gatsby.  Summer Movie Showdown #1 goes to Iron Man 3 …. Now It’s Time To “Energize” The Next Summer Movie Showdown …. At Warp Factor 9 … And Beyond.

Now Iron Man 3 & The Great Gatsby will have to contend with one of the most anticipated movie sequels for this year and in any movie season to date.  Star Trek: Into Darkness.  This continuation of the Star Trek Franchise Rebooting has all the fan boys & girls alike getting out their Starfleet uniforms from their closets and gearing up for the May 17th release … or in some places the night before on May 16th at Midnight for advance showings of the film.  Director J.J. Abrams promised us a real thrill ride on board the U.S.S. Enterprise and the weekend of May 17th all of us here in the USA are going to “Bold Go …. AGAIN” on our way to the re-imagined world of the 23rd Century known as the Star Trek Universe – in the J.J. Abrams’ Space/Time Continuum.

Here is just a sample of what you’re in for.  Check Out This Trailer Courtesy of IMDb …. http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi1137026585/

Like I had mentioned in previous blog entries this is just the beginning of the Summer Movie Showdown.  2013 has got a lot of really good movies that are going to be released on certain weekends at certain times to maximize your spending dollars at the box office.  It’s going to be up to you to decide what movie you want to see first on those particular weekends.  I must tell you the majority of these films need to be seen on the Big Screen before you decide to wait for them to be “On Demand” or rented from “Redbox” or “Netflex”.

And Remember These Keywords …. “Real 3D”  &  “IMAX 3D”.  I know the tickets will cost you a little more but with Star Trek: Into Darkness and the soon to be released After Earth, Fast and Furious 6, Disney’s Monster’s University and Man Of Steel if you can afford it see them in these formats on the big screen.  You won’t be disappointed.

Hello Blog Readers.  This is Marcus Jackson, the FOX 10 / CW 55 Resident Movie Guru here.

The Weekend of May 3rd, 2013 came with a BANG!  That can only mean one thing Movie Lovers ….. The Summer Movie Season Has Begun and Kicked It Into Overdrive with a Repulsor Blast …. Iron Man 3.  Tony Stark becomes “The Man In The Iron Mask … and Gauntlets … and Jet Boots … and” ….  just the Good Ole “Mark 42” Iron Man Suit – Movie Hint – in this movie Stark has about 42 Armored Suits in his arsenal. If you’ve seen the movie trailers so far this is going to be a factor for the movie itself this go round.

Iron Man 3 takes place just right Tony Stark help save the world from an alien threat led by the Norse God Loki with his teammates, The Avengers – Last Year’s Biggest Movie Of The Year.  This time the movie focuses on the aftermath that Tony has to deal with.  But alas Iron Man has to deal with a new threat – the terrorist known as The Mandarin. This All-Star cast of Robert Downey, Jr., Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, Jon Favreau (who directed the first 2 Iron Man movies and help produce this one) and Sir Ben Kingsley has made this film a must see at the box office … worldwide last week and this past weekend here Stateside.  Iron Man 3 pulled in about $505 Million overseas so far and we as Americans had to step up to the plate with “Iron Patriot” at our side pulled in an incredible (sorry Hulk, had to use your adjective) $175.9 Million.  This makes it the second biggest opening movie weekend on U.S. soil – Last year’s Marvel’s The Avengers is STILL the biggest with $207.4 Million.

We just had the Kentucky Derby Race to run this past Saturday with the winning horse by the name of “Orb”.  But the race for the Summer Movie Season Box Office is just getting into its first links.  Can Iron Man 3 hold its own with movies like The Great Gatsby, Star Trek: Into Darkness, The Hangover 3, Fast & Furious 6, and After Earth; And These Are All Movies Coming Out In May.   We still have the months of June, July, and August to contend with … and a particular movie called Man Of Steel that may tip the scales to the DC Comics Universe in winning this summer movie horse race.  Here’s a Movie Biz factoid … If Iron Man 3 can stay at the top of the box office this coming weekend it can be in good standing to be the Big Movie Of The Summer 2013 … maybe Movie Of The Year … We’ll See.
